Bringing a School Group to Shrewsbury Abbey

Some frequently asked questions:

1) How do I book?

Contact the Abbey Office on 01743 232 723. We will check the dates that are available and send you a booking form. We will also be able to answer your questions and be happy to accommodate your needs.

2) Where can we eat lunch?

The Abbey is situated in its own grounds which are not fenced but they are far enough away from the main road on the North side to be able to have a picnic lunch. We can also accommodate groups inside in winter but you need to discuss this with us when you book.

3) How much does it cost?

We ask for a donation of £1 per child for the Rev Ted Tour. This covers drinks, activity materials and heating costs.

4) How do I pay?

Cheques made out to "Shrewsbury Abbey PCC" may be paid on the day of the trip.

5) What about the shop and toilets?

We have toilets and facilities for the disabled now available. We would normally not plan to include a trip to the shop for children on the Rev Ted Trail. The Abbey shop is staffed throughout the day and can accommodate small groups at a time.

6) Where do we park?

There is a public car park opposite the Abbey. We suggest that you ask the coach company to drop the children outside the entrance to the Abbey on the Foregate so that you do not have to cross the road. If you are arriving by minibus you may park in the Abbey car park. It would be helpful to mention this when you book.

7) Where do we come on arrival?

Your group will be met at the door by an Abbey guide who will be waiting for you.

8) Do we need to bring anything with us?

We provide all the equipment for the children. We may ask you to label them before you arrive. Do remember that on a very cold winter's day the Abbey will not be as warm as your school! The children will need to bring a jumper with them.

9) What is expected of the teachers?

Legally you are responsible for the care and discipline of the children at all times including lunch.

10) Unguided groups.

You are welcome to bring your group but as the Abbey is used very frequently it makes sense to book in advance even if you are not using our guides. Otherwise we can not guarantee your entrance to the Abbey.

11) Where can I find your Risk Assesment?
