Shrewsbury Abbey - Shropshire Site Map
Shrewsbury Abbey Renaissance.jpg)
From the 11th to the 21st centuries
Shrewsbury Abbey has been the most important, most influential
and most visited site in Shrewsbury. Alongside its 'twin',
Shrewsbury Castle, the Abbey is at the heart of the Norman roots
of Shrewsbury as a 'Marcher' citadel on the borders of England
and Wales.
Throughout these ten centuries there have been regular changes
to the Abbey building and the 'fair wear and tear' of these
centuries has meant the need for regular maintenance.
Now, in this 10th century of service to Shrewsbury and
Shropshire, it is time to renovate, restore and rejuvenate the
way the Abbey engages with local, county and world-wide
communities.
We are calling this Shrewsbury Abbey
Renaissance
This 'Renaissance' will address three strands of the
Abbey's life and each strand will bear witness to its Christian
mission:
Spiritual
Cultural
Architectural
As this project develops there will be regular additions to this page and opportunities for you to take part in Shrewsbury Abbey Renaissance.
