Guild of St Winefride Background In 1487 Abbot Thomas Mynde received a licence from King Henry VII to found the Guild of St. Winefride whose members were to offer daily prayers at her shrine for the King, the Abbot and the Guild and to support the church by prayer and thanksgiving. In 1540 King Henry VIII dissolved the Abbey and with it the Guild. In 1987 the Guild was restored to be a group of people who would contribute to the service of God in the Abbey by prayer and through action. How can I become a member of the Guild of St. Winefride?
