SUMMARY:Music of BOWIE BY CANDLELIGHT
DESCRIPTION:Bowie By Candlelight comes to Shrewsbury Abbey! \nWe are delighted to bring you Bowie by Candlelight\, featuring ‘David Live’ The David Bowie Tribute Show. An incredible night of Bowie anthems including Let’s Dance\, Starman\, Life on Mars\, Rebel Rebel and more\, performed live\, by candlelight. \nDavid Live is one of the best tributes to any artist you will ever see – a respectful and charming homage\, attracting praise from all corners of the Bowie community. \nChris Evans (BBC Radio 2) remarked\, “THEY WERE FANTASTIC!” and Lord March\, who had the band play at his renowned Goodwood Revival Party when the real David Bowie had to decline\, exclaimed\, “IT’S DAVID BOWIE!” \nThe band has performed for the BBC\, for the Cambridge May Ball and for Lord and Lady Gerald Fitzalan-Howard at the wedding of their daughter\, Florence. We recently had the honour of playing at The David Bowie World Fan Convention in Liverpool. \nDavid Live was formed nearly 20 years ago and is considered the favourite amongst true Bowie fans. Between the hit singles\, the band squeeze in really deep album cuts and rarer live versions for the Bowie faithful. \nThis show is all about our love and respect for David Bowie\, and how his songs have shaped our lives. \n“I’ll never forget seeing David Live – the authenticity was startling” – Will Brooker\, author of “Why Bowie Matters” \nShow 1: Doors 5:30pm | Show 6:15pm – 7:30pm \nShow 2: Doors 8:00pm | Show 8:30pm – 9:45pm \nLicensed bar & Coffee and cake bar

SUMMARY:AN EVENING OF SAX & ORGAN
DESCRIPTION:From Bach to the Blues!\nSaxophonist Gerard McChrystal and Shrewsbury Abbey organist Nigel Pursey present a varied evening of music on Oct 31st. \nMusic crosses eras and styles\, including Bach\, Vivaldi\, Haydn\, Debussy and Ravel transitions\, to folk\, popular and jazz-influenced music in the second half. One of the highlights will be a stunning version of the tune Deep Purple. The concert ends with the rousing show piece Pequena Czarda. \nGerard is known for his relaxed and informative introductions. He will provide background to each piece and play three different saxophones\, including the tiny sopranino. \nDuring recent sessions with Nigel\, we have been enthralled by Gerard’s sublime sound in the wonderful acoustic of the Abbey. We have been quite blown away!. As you might imagine\, Gerard’s engagement diary is pretty much solid\, however we have managed to find a date – 31st October – when the people of Shrewsbury and Shropshire can experience his extraordinary sound. \nDoors: 18:30 \nShow: 19:30 \nEnds: 21:30 \nLicensed bar \nCoffee & cake bar

SUMMARY:NORTH WALES OPERA - MADAMA BUTTERFLY
DESCRIPTION:North Wales Opera returns to its Shrewsbury ‘home’ to present Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. The Abbey will be transformed with a raised platform and expert lighting to create intense drama accompanied by talented singers and Shrewsbury’s very own Ensemble SY1 live orchestra. \nAnne Williams-King (Director of North Wales Opera) travelled the globe singing the title role in this opera to great acclaim and has directed a beautifully traditional portrayal of this opera. Like many of its class\, this opera can be expressed in a few sentences and knowing the plot will allow you to sit back and allow the drama to unfold. \nUnder the proven leadership and artistry of international soprano Anne Williams-King and her team\, North Wales Opera benefits particularly from the experiences of Anne Williams-King as she has performed the opera so many times all over the world. \nA great introduction to this work by Opera Australia can be found here: \n \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mcfAbllY4E \nAnne Williams-King Director\nAndrew Charity Musical Director\nEnsemble SY1\nAlex Postlethwaite Ensemble Leader \n Please visit our website for more information about North Wales Opera Company & Studio: www.northwalesoepra.co.uk \nTicket Information (Discounts & Concessions) \n\nEarly bird tickets (book before 1/10/26) \nCarer tickets (Call Ticket Quarter 0344 8000 410 or email customerservice@ticketquarter.co.uk)\nBlue Light Card Holder (Discounts for NHS & Emergency Service https://www.bluelightcard.co.uk/en) – one card ID per one ticket only\nDefence Privilege Card Holder (Discounts for the UK’s Armed Forces\, Veterans and wider Defence Community – https://www.defencediscountservice.co.uk/en) – one card ID per one ticket only\nConcession Tickets are available to:\n\nFull-Time Students with Valid Student ID\nUnder 25s (Proof of Age—Driver’s Licence\, Passport etc.)\nThose in receipt of Universal or Pension Credit (not just a state pension). Evidence of benefit (one ID per one ticket only).\n\n\n\nIf tickets have been bought without appropriate ID\, standard tickets will need to be purchased otherwise there will be no admission to the performance. \nDoors: 18:30 \nPerformance: 19:30 \nLicensed bar & Coffee bar \nThe doors to the Abbey will close 5 minutes before the beginning of the show.
