ECCLES COMMUNITY CHOIR

July 22 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Eccles Community Choir was established twenty years ago under the leadership of Angela Rowley, ARCM. An award winning choir of mixed ability, Eccles community Choir is open to all, with no auditions. We do everything we can to keep subscriptions and ticket prices as low as possible, so that the music we make may be accessed by the whole community. The Choir motto is ‘Singing for pleasure and friendship’. We are so grateful that steadfast friendships underpin our Choir and we hope that our music making spreads the pleasure we feel when we sing together.

Our Musical director, Angela always works incredibly hard to bring out the best in our performances and to ensure that in addition to regular concerts, we have singing opportunities that could only be considered to be once-in-a-lifetime events. Our talented accompanist John Stott performs with us, with alacrity and great patience! The Choir usually gives 6 concerts per year locally. We also occasionally travel to take part in festivals (where we have won prizes) and we have a summer trip each year. The Choir has performed 4 times at our Twin Town of Lunen in Germany; we have sung in Cologne Cathedral, in Bruges, at the Last Post at the Menin Gate, and even participated in Howard Goodall’s Eternal Light at the Carnegie Hall New York! However, since COVID 19 struck, we have not ventured abroad. But we are making plans for the summer trip of 2026.

The Choir offers a wide repertoire. Concert programmes are sometimes arranged upon a theme; sometimes an eclectic mix aimed at pleasing a specific audience. Despite the mixed abilities within the Choir, Angela does not shy away from sophistication or working towards perfection and we seem to thrive on it.

Last year, the Choir’s summer trip was to Glasgow, for a concert in St. Andrew’s Cathedral (pictured below). We were very well received and it was suggested that we should do a tour! So, this year we are delighted to be able to travel to perform at Shrewsbury Abbey and also Powis Castle. At the end of August we are going to participate in the Cirencester Orpheus Project celebrations, singing a new song written by Howard Goodall. It’s going to be a busy summer for the Choir!

Thank you Shrewsbury Abbey for this wonderful opportunity. We hope you enjoy it as much as we expect to!

This is a free concert with a retiring collection towards the Organ Fund.
