Shropshire lord lieutenant Anna Turner JP has announced details of a county memorial service to be held to mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Service of Thanksgiving for the life of HM Queen Elizabeth will be held on Sunday 18 September 2022 at 6pm in Shrewsbury Abbey. The service is for the whole of the ceremonial County of Shropshire, including Telford and Wrekin. Up to 500 people are expected to attend, with representatives having been invited from councils, education, military and emergency services as well as faith groups, charities, and businesses. The service is open for anyone to attend, although seating is limited and will be on a first come first served basis. Organisers are advising anyone attending to get there early to ensure a seat. Parking is available at Abbey Foregate car park opposite the Abbey.

We are excited to announce a new series of recitals taking place at Shrewsbury Abbey on Sunday afternoons after Evensong for one hour. The first of these will be given by internationally renowned pianist Graham Scott at 5:30pm on Sunday 16th October with a programme of music by Chopin. Hailed by the Gramophone magazine as ‘an exceptional talent,’ Graham has performed extensively throughout the world notably in London (Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Barbican Centre), New York, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Beijing, Paris and Tokyo.
