Today is Holocaust Memorial Day, when we remember victims of genocides around the world, and especially the victims of the Nazi Holocaust. To help us mark the day, there will be a reading by Jean Boase-Beier of Holocaust poems translated from languages as different as Spanish, German, Polish and Japanese. Each poem will be briefly introduced and set in context. In this way we can hear the voices of those who were later murdered because they were Jewish, or disabled, or who opposed the Nazis on religious or political grounds. We will also hear from those who survived, those who helped them, and those who reflect today on what we can learn from these terrible events. FREE ENTRY
Three of our expert guides will be in the Abbey between 1.30 am and 3.30 pm to show you around the beautiful Abbey church and share their extensive knowledge. Everyone is welcome. The tours are free but if you wish to give a donation towards the upkeep of the Abbey it will be gratefully received. We look forward to welcoming you on Saturday 5th February 2022
